Buying at Auction

Whether you are new to buying or selling with Sean Eacrett Antiques, Auctions and Restoration we would like to welcome you and hope this simple guide may be of some help. When you come to one of our events you can get all the support you need by approaching any member of staff and explaining that you are new to our auctions. Our team will gladly help you through the simple processes. Sean Eacrett Antiques, Auctions and Restoration has a range of specialist and general sale auctions. Auctions are an exciting way of buying and we make the process as easy as possible.

The following is a simple guide to getting the most from your visit to us.

The first step in buying at auction is to find out when they are on, check out our upcoming auctions page to see our future dates and catalogues. We also hold specialist sales when required.

There are two different types of auctions.

The Live Event: This is where you are at your computer, tablet or mobile device (there can be issues about connectivity and sound). The auctioneer will be live selling the items and will either have audio or video or both available where you can listen and watch the sale live and bid live. If you cannot take in all or none of the auction you can leave an AUTO BID. This can be as high as you like as NOBODY will see that bid.

The Timed Auction: A timed online-only auction is automated and takes place solely online throughout. The bidding for each lot is opened at a predetermined level set by the auctioneer, for a set period. During this period you will be able to see the current highest bid on each lot. You may place a higher bid at the pre-determined bidding increment. Bidders are automatically informed by email if they are the winning bidder, or if they have been outbid by another competing bidder. At the end of the defined bidding period, if the highest bid offered meets the minimum price designated by the Auctioneer. (i.e. the seller’s reserve price), the lot is sold. Bidding on all lots in a timed online auction will close at a specified time and lots will sell at stepped times ( i.e. lot 1 finishes at 6pm, Lot 2 finishes 20 – 30 seconds later). If a bid is placed on a lot within a specific time before closing, the bidding may automatically be extended for a set period to facilitate the last-minute bidding. The length of extended bidding is set by the Auctioneer prior to the opening of the auction
